Αntioxidant, Antimicrobial and Antiseptic

Dittany is the herb that grows in Crete only, in the dry arid places of the Cretan massif.Dittany essential oil comes from the distillation of its leaves. 

It has significant antioxidant effects. It is a remarkable inhibitor of microbial growth. In total, it constitutes an effective source of powerful natural antimicrobials, antioxidants and astringent qualities which improve health.

Its main components are carvacrol 68.96%, β-fellandren 18.34% and p-cumin 4.68%, substances due to its excellent antioxidant & astringent properties.

As mentioned above its antiseptic qualities are well known and make  dittany ideal for acne and oily complexions. In a fifty ml carrier of jojoba vegetable oil, almond oil, we add ten drops of dittany essential oil and apply on clean skin.It also relieves wounds and insect bites by applying a small amount.

A bit of history 

Homer 9th century B.C.reported that dittany roots were a cure against gastric ulcers.Euripides 5th century B.C. stated that it induced (facilitated) childbirth.Hippocrates 5th - 4th century B.C.for gastric complaints,tuberculosis and in poultices on wounds.The most interesting referral to the medicinal power of Origanum dictamnus comes from Aristotle,who stated that wild goats of Mount Ida (Crete) struck by poisoned arrows would eat aerial parts of Origanum dictamnus,causing the arrows to leave their bodies and their wounds to heal.

Security:

Avoid eye contact.
